Souter Lighthouse

Souter lighthouse is a striking Victorian lighthouse which is bodly painted in red and white hoops.

The lighthouse started operating in 1871 and was the first to use alternating electric current, the most advanced lighthouse technology of its day. Visitors can see the engine room, light tower, fog signal station and keeper's cottage.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge

The Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a tilting foot and cycle bridge that spans the River Tyne linking Gateshead Quays with the Newcastle upon Tyne Quayside area.

The unique bridge was opened to the public in 2001. The construction of the bridge won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize in 2002.

The Sage Gateshead

The Sage Gateshead is a centre for musical education performance. The Sage Gateshead is also a conference venue and it hosted the Labour Party Spring Conference in February 2005.

The Sage Gateshead opened in 2004 and is a unique building with a "curvy" glass and steel design.

The Angel of the North

The Angel of the North is a modern steel scuplture created by internationally renowned scupltor Antony Gormley OBE.

Standing 20 metres tall, its wings are 54 metres, nearly as wide as the wing span of a jumbo jet. The Angel stands overlooking looking Team Valley in Gateshead, a panoramic hilltop site that was once a colliery pithead.

BALTIC

The BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art is the biggest gallery of its kind in the world and is an internationally recognised centre for contemporary art.

The BALTIC opened in 2002 and is housed in a converted building (The Baltic Flour Mill) on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead.

Tyne Bridge

This landmark bridge was opened in 1928by King George V and Queen Mary.

The earliest bridge across the Tyne was built by the Romans. The current bridge is painted in its original green colour and has a span of 531 feet. It is a fine example of a compression arch suspended-deck bridge.
